Biography
Desirée Pfeiffer, born in New York, is a portrait and fine-art photographer. She obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Photography from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco in 2004. Shortly thereafter she moved to London and began shooting for various magazines while also concentrating on personal projects. She has spent the past five years splitting her time between the U.K. and California and is currently residing in San Francisco where she is working on a new series. Her work has been shown in the United States and Western Europe. Her first solo show was exhibited in the summer of 2008 at the Royal Gallery in the Palace of Westminster (London). She had been commissioned by the House of Lords’ Works of Art Committee to photograph various members. Her work has also been exhibited as part of the Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery (NPG) in London in 2006 and 2008. Her work obtained 4 Honorable Mentions in the Pilsner Urquell International Photography Awards in 2008, and an honorable mention in the Prix de la Photographie, Paris (PX3) competition 2009. Most recently Charlotte Cotton, the curator and head of the Photography Department at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, selected her work to be part of the Art of Photography Show at the Lyceum Theatre Gallery in San Diego, California (August 29- November 1, 2009). Her work was also selected by renowned photographer Mary Ellen Mark as part of the Portrait exhibit at the Center For Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, Colorado (November 6 -28, 2009). Currently she is part of the Uncommon Portraits exhibit, juried by Cig Harvey, at PhotoPlace Gallery in Middlebury, Vermont (March 9- April 3, 2010).
